Inspiring a New Generation

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Computer Science is a rapidly growing area of both study and employment, extending into all aspects of day-to-day life and helping us advance our knowledge of the world around us. Unfortunately, across the world, there is a growing demand for people with Computer Science degrees or related experience that is struggling to be met. Cardiff University has been working across Wales to encourage students to pursue the subject and it is an amazing opportunity to extend those efforts to Namibia and hopefully inspire a new generation of computer scientists.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Over the course of the two-week program, the learners will be taught how to code and design websites using a combination of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP. They will begin by creating their own simple website, and then gradually adding more complexity to their site as their knowledge of programming grows. The sessions are designed to build the learners confidence with programming, understanding that mistakes are easily made and a natural part of the process, in addition to enjoying the freedom of creating and designing. During the second week of the program, they will then work collaboratively to help construct and style this very website, the platform that will be used to spread word of the issues surrounding heart health throughout Namibia and perhaps even beyond.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It is our hope that the two-week program will also inspire the learners to continue furthering their knowledge of programming and become part of the first Namibian generation to have studied Computer Science at school and university, allowing them to become leaders in the subject and shape Namibia’s contributions to the field.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
